In some cases, a healthy diet and regular exercise simply won’t give you the figure you want.
As the body ages, body shape can become more uneven, and stubborn areas of fat begin to feel like they’re here to stay. If these things are afflicting you, liposuction can provide a surgical method of regaining that lost body shape, restoring an hourglass figure, and getting your confidence back.
In this page, we look at:
• What does liposuction surgery entail?
• Why Choose the Elena Prousskaia Clinic
Liposuction involves the removal of fat, using special cannulas, through multiple small (5 mm) incisions.
Common areas where liposuction can be particularly effective are the Inner and Outer Thighs, Stomach (or Abdomen), Hips, Knees and Chin. Surgical liposuction can be done under local anaesthetic for smaller areas but it more often requires a general anaesthetic, so you may need to stay overnight with us for your procedure. The surgery can dramatically improve the contours of your body, especially around your hips and thighs, making you look very different in your favourite jeans.
Skill, qualification and experience are all important factors when choosing your cosmetic surgeon. Elena excels in all these three areas, bringing artistry and a sensitive, considered approach to her work.
Ms Elena Prousskaia has been carrying out aesthetic and plastic surgery procedures for more than 20 years. Elena trained for eight years in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and since then has held leading Fellowships around the world.
As an NHS Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at Southmead Hospital she dedicated several years to complex microsurgical reconstruction and general plastic surgery. During this time at North Bristol Trust she particularly enjoyed rebuilding patients who suffered from breast cancer giving them their body and confidence back. At present Ms Prousskaia runs her own successful private practice performing full range of plastic and aesthetic surgery for face, body and breast. Elena Prousskaia consults in several clinics around the South West. Please see the ‘Our Locations’ tab in the menu for exact addresses or call us to discuss your closest location.
It’s important to point out that liposuction is not an alternative to losing weight because only a limited amount of fat can be removed in one operation. Elena’s policy is not to perform massive volume liposuction, as it can be dangerous to your health. Used sparingly and sensitively, however, it can have great results on certain areas, such as the outer thighs where some women have a genetic predisposition to gaining fat.
Elena will talk you through all the necessary pre-surgery investigations, as well as the after-care required. She will also fully explain the risks associated with the operation. We will only go ahead with the procedure once you are completely ready and happy with the choice we have made together. The good news is that the scars after liposuction are usually almost invisible and your clothes will fit better. Following your treatment, however, you will be a bit sore for a few weeks and will require an elasticated support garment during this period. Before you leave the Clinic, our team will make sure you’re completely informed about how best to care for yourself during the recovery period. Aftercare is a huge priority for us and we’re always available for any questions during the weeks and months after your procedure.

Elena will discuss your desired outcome and the specific treatment in detail during your initial consultation. If necessary, It is possible to have more than one session. Normally these will be at least 6 months apart.
As with any major surgery, liposuction carries risks, such as bleeding and a reaction to anaesthesia. Your decision to have this operation should be based on your careful evaluation of all the possible risks and the potential benefits. Most patients undergoing this surgery do not experience complications. However, you should discuss all possible risks and your tolerance of complications with your consultant plastic surgeon, Miss Prousskaia, in order to make sure that you fully understand the implications and consequences of having fat transfer. Possible complications specific to liposuction include: Contour irregularities, your skin may appear bumpy, wavy or withered due to uneven fat removal, poor skin elasticity and unusual healing. Elena will provide you with further information with the risks and provide you with a detailed consent form during your consultations. This will help you to minimise the risks.
Elena prides herself on taking the time to truly understand a patient’s aims and discussing what result will work best given the patient’s individual characteristics. In patients with skin irregularities and loose skin, skin excess may not adapt by itself after liposuction and may require additional skin tightening techniques. Skin irregularities may not always improve with liposuction.
Elena does not operate on patients that regularly smoke or vape. To be considered for this procedure you must refrain from smoking or vaping for 3 months before and after your surgery.
The total cost of the surgery will be confirmed after the first consultation.
The cost includes the hospital, surgeon and anaesthetic fees. It also covers all post-operative visits. The initial consultation fee will be invoiced separately. The prices apply only at the time of publication and are subject to changes without notification.
